Well, the book is done now.

I've uploaded it to Amazon.

We're waiting on them now.

And while it seems somewhat sad to ask..

Leave an honest review for me? In fact, post about the book release in your Facebook groups. Forums you frequent. Your Friends. Anywhere you can?

I'm willing to be that guy and earnestly ask you for your help...

Thanks everyone. :)

I'll update this page when the book goes live.

  6. Brilliant, loved every page. Now to reread so erm when can we expect the next instalment? I'm guessing super sale 2 is next but have you planned out your writing beyond that, I know you mentioned trying something different soon on patreon?
I'm not trying to sound ungrateful for the huge effort you exerted on wild 2 just eager for more.
Thanks again for all your books!

    1. LoL.

I understand. We're all readers first before we become authors.

Honestly? I'm writing Super Sales 2, and toying with a Dungeon Core idea.

Then there's the AntiHero-Rene story that's still sitting at 30%.

I don't think I'll be writing Wild Wastes 3 immediately, but might write a different book for Randi Darren.

I have a few ideas on that as well. They'd be the same style, Adult Fantasy, but a different plot.

    2. Sounds interesting, have to admit I would love to see wild wastes 3 jump up the priorities list but I apreaciate the need to satisfying your different fan bases.
That said I can't wait to read super sale 2 either and I'm sure I will enjoy whatever new work you do publish, including new selfless hero stories.

    *SPOILERS*

Also, I may have missed something at the end of the first book but wouldn't the injury Vince got make it difficult to defeat his wives in combat? Doesn't he fight them once a month now?

  11. loved the book but I have questions is Queen Yaris over fes? If so does that mean the title of fes no longer holds the same power?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ok... so ... minor spoiler below this point. But I'll tell you I deliberately left the question of Yaris and Fes open.

Because without drama, the story would be boring. I mean, let's face it, if he won every battle hadily, every fight easily, and never had to rely on people, it'd be boring.

He'd be Hercules. As to answer your direct question....

No. Yaris is not first wife. Fes still is. And that's a future story line. :)

      Delete
  12. Yaris is propably very snotty person - not good at fighting and instead use intrigue and magic - also prefers looking at most people from "above" like "true" nobility likes to do. I can even see this situation now:

    "Meet my Fes, Berenga..."
    "Husband..." said Berenga.
    "Fes? What's that?" asked Yaris.
    Suddenly room become silent.
"It means: first wife." said Red.
"Wife? Shes just concubine... And you are not her husband. Only I can call you that. And I'm now your first and only wife... Not her..."

And in short that would be it. ;)

    1. Fairly accurate.

      :)

Yaris wasn't what anyone wanted, and Vince didn't want to rule over a city of corpses. Nor did he want to spend all the lives of his soldiers to rule over a city of corpses.

Yaris becomes the only livable solution.

  13. Plot hole issue. *** INCLUDE SPOILERS ***

I made deal wit Randi (William), to tone down my comments. First off - I love his stories. I also loved Wild Wastes 1. But plot hole I discavered plus some other issues made me frustrated and I vented a little ... Sorry.

Anyway... Beside Fes issue above. Lets face it - you my friend didn't think things through enough and propably broken story itself.

Why? Let me explain. If any of you don't agree, let me know "why?" you don't. So let's start:

There are two important rules set in book one:

First one (quote from chapter 12): “I’m sure you’ve heard the tales. They’re fairly accurate. A Dryad must remain near their tree. All Dryads are given a seed from their mother’s tree as they reach adulthood. If the seed should remain unplanted for too long, the Dryad dies. If the planted seed becomes a tree and dies before it can make more seeds, the Dryad dies.”

And another one (from chapter 21): “This is until they plant their trees later,” Vince said, pushing the knife into his chest right on top of the same place from the previous incident.
True to her word, he felt no pain. The knife parted his flesh smoothly and easily, the wound popping open into a gaping maw.
It was eerie, staring into the same exact wound that nearly took his life.
“They won’t be able to replant elsewhere. No seeds will grow inside you,”
    Meliae admitted.

We see in book 2 that Blue, Green and other Nymphs plan to have Drayad daughters. But Vince and rest of his Dryad harem simply forgot that when Dryad offspring reaches maturity, she need to receive seed pod from her mother. But Green and Blue and other grove Dryads now can't even produce new seeds for themselves, so when those kids reach adulthood and would need those seeds from mother's tree, they won't be able to have them and simply die because of it.
Therefore Vince's grand plan of giving birth to Dryads called Priests of Yosemite is doomed from the get go. And any try to patch this like: he suddenly can grow seeds from his ears, a*s or other body hole will be seen by me as total fail.

What's more in my opinion there should be even third rule: All young Dryads until reaching adulthood need to be close to mother's tree to gain strength from it to live and grow. If such Dryad isn't close enough, she dies. She takes sustenance from mother till she's born, but not after navel-string is cut. When Dryad is born, she need to be close to mother's tree. Trees of other Dryads won't do. It must be her mother's tree (or her tree - but she's too young for that).

This is partially taken from rule that adolescent Dryads are still staying near mother's tree.
If there was no need to gain strength of this closeness, Drayads could leave lets say at age 15 and they would have not a week to find new grove but something like three years (till they mature). So even if third rule is not exactly mentioned - it's self implied in story (in my eyes it is).

Besides this would be realistic and according to Dryad rules in your or other stories. But that would constrain Vince's movements even further. He wants young Dryads from partners like Green and Blue that have put seed pod into him (are bonded to him) - and such situation shows that he must stay with their children all the time (he is their mother's tree). So he need to take them with him everywhere until they grow (but still die later when adulthood comes). And that means - no more adventures for poor Vince, right? Lol, that's harsh, but he should think about it earlier or suffer consequences.

Anyway, If I need to put down or generalize quotes from book, let me know. I'll modify my post.

    1. Wouldn't worry about it.

I can tell you that there's already answer, and people have been working on it off scene.

Vince isn't aware of it, so it's never brought up. :)

Also, I did think it through. But if I solved every single issue as it came up, there'd be no conflict.

    2. Hope it wont be something like make those Dryads undead and feed them "seed" like to Red and turn them to Priestes of some dark god. Well... Certainly not something that I'm opting for.

  14. In book two there is certain conversation. And in my opinion it's wrong. Vince loves freedom. His parents allowed him to free roam the wastes and become what he wanted - a Ranger. So taking his personality to account conversation I mentioned should look like this:

“Sweetling,” Meliae said from Vince’s side.
    “Mm?”
“What do you plan on doing with our Dryad children? They can’t remain...
and based on the treaty with mother, they can’t really go to Wooden Heart either,” Meliae continued.
Vince gazed out on the plains to the east of Yosemite. Covering the entirety of it was his army, the support teams, and all manner of equipment.
“Hm. I think its way too soon to think about it, honey. They aren't even born yet. Beside I don't think we even should decide for them on this issue."
Meliae chewed at her lower lip prettily, her eyes boring into his own.
    “Why not?”
"Well... I know you are a Dryad and your upbringing is totally different from mine, but my parents gave me freedom and allowed me to become whomever I wanted. Therefore I can't... and won't decide for my kids. Not, before they make those decisions for themselves."
"I was thinking about it recently and now secretly count on possibility that if they are of my blood, they can have traits similar to mine. So there is chance that with planting their seed pods to their own bodies they will become free of constrains your kind have. They would be able to free roam like I could. I still don't know if it's possible, but I have hope."
Meliae’s brows pressed into each other for another second before she laughed softly. "Sweetling, you're right. I didn't thought about it, but you certainly right."
"Anyway, till they grow up, I will try with all my might make this world safer for them. I may also have some ideas how they can help family."
"Like what?" Meliae asked with curiosity.
"Sorry, but I won't tell you. Not yet anyway. If I would, you may try to influence them. I know you scheming Dryads well..." He smiled.
"I want for them to grow up without any constrains if it's possible. Nothing like that for my little girls. I think that your race was constrained enough in the past and so from now on I'll do everything to change that. It’ll work out somehow I think." Vince said. “Anyway... taking this matter aside... What happens when I die? Who holds the crown of the kingdom of Yosemite?”
Meliae laughed at that and pressed a warm hand to Vince’s back. “Well, we’ll just have to make sure to keep you out of harms way since you’re immortal at this point. And should the worst happen... I would say the best course of action would be to have a clear line of succession. Both for the royal line, and the Dryad line.”
"You advise me well. Like always. But be aware, that I won't force this task on any of of my children. Not, if they really don't want this. So you're right... Succession lines should be made, but final decision to accept the task or not will be on them."
    "I understand, my husband".

I'm not a writer, but I think my revision nice correspond with Vince's character he had in book 1. He still hints that he may have plans like making some (or even all) of his daughters to Priests, but only when they grow up and would want it. Why he is so harsh in your version?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Maybe it's only me, but I dislike parents that dictate future to their children. I would be OK if Vince was more villainous tho, but I didn't see it in him till this conversation. Also option to free roam is nicer then dictating their lives like he did.

      Delete
    2. I don't think he's as harsh as you make him out to be.

I think this might be a cross section of personal history meshing with preference.

Nothing wrong with that, but Dryads aren't human. They don't think, believe, or act in the same way humans do.

      Delete
    3. I think it depends in what environment they were risen up and what possibilities they had.

Like I said most of normal ones are selfish and power hungry. They would prefer to steal Vince or wait if he change his mind. Also I can't understand they all allowed to be redirected to Wooden Heart. Beside Vince propably needs non bonded Dryads in Yosemite as backup if his killed and all his bonded dryads and dryad children die week after his gone.

Also really bothers me behavior of Vince's dryad wives. They all seems to be power hungry and don't think about their children at all. Or it's looks like it. Why? Becouse they are furtalizing all eegs the posibly can without bothering to think. And most of those new lifes are doomed. Example? Lets say Meliae have 5000 eggs furtilized in her, even if she have twins or triplets each year, she would need something like 2000 years to bring them to the world. So why she still cumulates more? Vince is too reckless to live long, so she propably because she's don't know what she's doing or wants more power and extended traveling range. She certainly doesn't care about her children that wont have chance to be born at all. I understand doctors in our world that get couple off eggs to extend chances for healty child to be born. They are strangers after all and future mother don't have anything to say about invitro method. Besides it's still not hundreds or thousands like in this case. But Mealie have 100% chance to concive healthy child and can do it any time. Also she's saying she cares. But her actions are telling otherwise. She's still fertilizing. Or she doesn't think about fertilized egg an living being? Because if she really cared, she would stop doing this long time ago. Or someone would tell her (like her mother) that what she's doing is not right.

  16. Last serious issue I have is about those "criminals" from Vegas. Sorry but composition of this group really bothers me.

I think it was something like that:
Assassins - doubtful they were captured. Not by soldiers and mercenaries within city limits and prior warning that they are in danger. So they either escaped or were killed outright.
Prostitutes - yes. And they didn't propably have the choice to leave before pacification broken out. Beside they can't change their lives like that so they were opposing.
Bouncers/guards - they were hired for protection so it wasn't their choice to stay and defend their bosses, but contract obligation in most cases.
    Bosses/lieutenants/pimps - couple of them.
    Loan sharks - few.
Smugglers - few. Rest was propably somewhere on the job traveling.
    Thief's - lots of them.
    Beggars - similar.
Kids of prostitutes and homeless children recruited by thief guild to pit pocketing. - Also lots of them. They were propably sleeping on premises of thief guild and were in their protection. Probably lot of them were captured. They were propably also with guild and not against it.

Lizardmen is a species - "all were killed" means those in home, their females and offspring's as well, right?

I can look away from turning undead bosses/lieutenants and even loan sharks.
For thief's - I'm opting for exile or cutting off the hands.
But I can't fantom turning prostitutes, beggars or kids.
    Even killing Lizardman children is...

So... there was no Dryads with Vince to check people - most of them were home pregnant so checking all Vegas citizens was impossible. But all were gathered and turned. Really - even women and children? Tell me it's not true. Otherwise I can't fantom some of regular Vegas citizens offended by it - or maybe some family members that were not counted as criminals and were spared - snug behind Vince during time he was defending gate and kill him from the back. If I was Vegas citizen and heard what he did - I would propably do that myself or left the city if I had chance. No place for me in kingdom of kid's killer (turner).

Sorry but kid's issue (end even women) really bothers me and don't want to know and can't stop thinking about it at the same time.

Additional question: Vegas had slave market or slave district like Verix?

    1. I think I'll leave this one alone and tell you that perhaps Wild Wastes isn't for you.

Vince isn't a hero. Never claimed to be one. In fact, I put several warnings in the blurbs that this isn't a happy book.

      Delete
    2. Maybe he isn't. I don't expect him to be. I don't expect him to be even good emperor - actually can't understand why he event want to build empire. Even building the city and buying more slaves wasn't his idea. Anyway... WW1 was OK thou. Love harem and even slavery don't bother me. I tolerate abuse of women if character that have slaves isn't positive and/or story needs it. Even Felix in SSoSH is OK - he don't abuse anyone. He could do something like feeding sosage's to all of his "harem" even if they didn't wanted it, but he don't.

What bothers me is child abuse in any form performed by MC in any book. Even if Vince can't be good father, he should strife to not be bad. He wasn't raised in horrible environment himself so he shouldn't be capable of harming children for his goals. If he do it - he's not "not hero" - he's not even "anti-hero". He's Villain of the worst kind. That's why my question was mostly about kid's and not other things.

And sorry about my huge posts, but I try to enter very deeply in books I like and WW1 was great. Actually WW2 wasn't bad till he marched with his army and began to have some strange out of character inclinations (that's my opinion of course). I was thinking of him like someone I would like to know, till that moment. And everything later happened like out of blue for me. Especially when he want some semblance of freedom and tolerance in his kingdom. Lack laws wont help when he want to combine different thinking species in one. And if he himself lack tolerance or restrains, he and his hard hand won't (shouldn't) be tolerated as well.

      Delete
  17. OK, that's mostly enough from me. I'm very glad that this issue with seed pods can be resolved. Maybe there is hope for Vince. ;)

Rest are mostly regrets: like for example world issue.

It is said that Earth in Wild Wastes suffered world changing disaster. But what we see that what suffers here are only central states of North America. I think that nuclear bomb was exchanged to portal building. But what's with the rest of the world? I doubt that portals were built somewhere else seeing how disastrous this technology is. So what we have? Japan that isn't stopped by Americans and should conquer Australia, China and propably now defenseless America (or whats left of it). Germany who propably won WWII because Americans didn't helped (besides Hitler would want to attack US next). Russia (that might even conquer Germany). So when Northern America suffers, but rest of the world - not so much. So where are wars of those countries against US? Where are expeditions from rest of the world? And I also think that rest of the world would want some wastelanders as slaves or acquisitions for zoo as well so there should be lots of traffic and trade on coast cities.

That's why I think using dragons for this would be perfect. Well.... those beast are awesome, right? If it was me, I would set this story something like this: There was disaster during WWII and Wastes were created in US. High Elves that controlled dragons with their magic lost that control during this incident and most of the dragons escaped to the world that was defenseless against them and began ravaging lands all over Earth. Those now free dragons would only stayed away from America afraid to be capture again by elves.
Setting it like that would solved issue from above. Dragons vs Japan/Germany/Russia = America is left alone. But now... Instead of magnificent beasts that could be awesome with their raw power as pure world ravagers we have shape-shifting scheming ones that are plotting intrigues instead of doing things dragons do and use humans instead fighting themselves. And dragon we had in story didn't even defended his own city.

OK, having dragons like that may be nice in future when they finally do something, but we still don't have anything to put rest of the world at bay. And even gods, angels and demons are not enough where faith of normal people on Earth is different, so they don't have influence and propably Vatican have them put down when they show up. Beast that can go against ships, tanks or planes would be great as explanation for state rest of the world is at present - like in Reign of Fire movie. And gods etc... would be messing up things mostly on wastes when they have power.

It is entirely possible that various peoples from the waste found their way to europe/asia/africa etc... and thus threw everything into chaos for a while. Its also possible that Germany is slowly conquering all of europe now, since I doubt much news crosses the oceans fast.
